Signs That You Should Replace Your Bathtub

It may seem like a simple concept, but many people ignore the signs that it is time to update their bathtub. Do not just go by the age of your tub to determine whether it needs to be replaced. We always recommend trying to fix before replacing your tub, but here are some signs that will show you that you need to upgrade.

There are cracks. Not only are cracks horrible to look at, but they can become a safety hazard. The last thing that you want is for you, or your child, to cut a foot on an unwanted crack. Along with being a safety hazard, cracks 100% of the time lead to leaks in your tub. Excessive leaking can cause external damage to the bathroom, or home, costing you more than a new bathtub to fix.

There are leaks present. You must take immediate action if you see water coming through the bottom or sides of your bathtub. Like I mentioned above, this can cost you thousands of dollars in water damage if left untreated. If you are unsure if there is a leak, fill the tub and plug the drain. Check back periodically to see if the water level has decreased. Leaks can cause mold as well, which is a health hazard to you and your family.

Your tub is difficult to clean. Do you scrub your tub and the stains do not come out anymore? That is because the finish on your tub has worn off and the material is no longer protected. Without its finish, your bathtub will accrue dirt and bacteria. If this goes without fixing, it can lead to mold and harmful bacteria in your tub. At that point, you are getting dirtier while trying to clean yourself!

Lastly, the color is out of date. If you have an older home, you may see that the bathtub is an ugly pink, blue, or mint green color. These colors were very popular 75 years ago, but have since gone out of style. Updating your tub to a modern, beautiful color will allow you to really enjoy the space, as well as increase the value of your home.
